Value Chain Analysis: Case Studies Booklet Series 2023

In order to develop a more holistic understanding of the multi-disciplinary concept of Value Chain Analysis (VCA), TPA has formulated two booklets:

Learning Booklet: This booklet discusses the theoretical concepts related to the various facets of Value Chain Analysis. The idea is for the reader to first get well-versed with the basic fundamentals of this subject matter and understand the complexities involved in conducting VCA.
Case Study Booklet: This is the continuation of the learning booklet and deals with practical applications of the field. The emphasis here is to test and develop further the techniques and theoretical aspects discussed in the previous booklet.
Reference Booklet: This booklet contains a detailed set of quantitative analysis in various industries.

These booklets present various perspectives of looking at a VCA in the following disciplines:

Strategic management context - This topic discusses the value chain of a company in comparison with that of the industry it operates in, in order to determine if an overhaul of strategic management is required;
Corporate Governance context - This topic discusses whether the conduct of the company matches the corporate governance or other communication to stakeholders;
Tax/TP context - This topic focuses on whether the various entities within an MNE are remunerated in accordance with their respective contribution to value creation.
Finance context – This heading discusses whether the tax/TP conduct and remuneration mechanisms match the financial records of an MNE;
Supply chain management context – This topic covers the key value drivers in the management of the supply chain within an MNE;
HR context – This topic provides guidance on managing HR challenges within a company such as succession planning, matching FTEs job description with their actual conduct, etc.;
IT context - This topic focuses on whether sources of collection of data to produce analytics for the MNE are aligned with the key value drivers and are reliable and sound.
